Creating the perfect backyard haven for your new hot tub can be an exciting part of your buying experience. Summer is the perfect time to identify the perfect spot for your hot tub, and how to integrate it into your backyard living. Here are five things to keep in mind when planning the spot for your new hot tub:
Convenience is key Sometimes it can be tempting to place your hot tub in a remote out of the way spot for privacy. But if you want to truly get the most enjoyment out of your hot tub, and ensure you’ll use it regularly, proximity to the exit of your home is pretty important. The less distance you have to travel when leaving your house to hop in your tub, the more likely you’ll use it. Give yourself firm footing What you place your hot tub on is important, as it’s going to be there for a good long time. Timbers or crushed rock do not set you up for long term success. While you may not need to go to the expense of pouring concrete, consider something firm that won’t settle over time. Speaking of firm footing, steps for easy entry and exit to the tub are really a smart idea, and one of the first things shoppers tend to forego. No one likes to be bugged while soaking Choosing the right plants to surround your hot tub with is critical. It may seem great to have fragrant flowers around your hot tub, but remember bees and other insects like them, too! Surround your hot tub with plantings that won’t draw the critters, but will be great to enjoy from your vantage point in the tub. Enjoying Your Spa at Home with the Kids – Hot Tubs Hillsboro

Spending family time in a hot tub can be terrific, especially with children. After all, how many places can you retreat to nowadays that isn’t filled with techno distractions? Depending on the age of the kids in the spa, it’s also important to keep a few things in mind to make sure the tubbing is worry-free for all involved. Here are a few hints regarding hot tub time with the little ones:
Stay hydrated – Kids love hanging out in the water for extended periods. But in a hot water environment, it’s smart to be sure there’s plenty of choices around to keep them hydrated. Water, iced tea and lemonade are great summer choices. Stay temperate – Small kids love hot tubs, but can’t necessarily handle hot water temperatures for long periods of time. Have kids take breaks on a cool-down seat inside the tub, or on the edge of the shell (with supervision, of course). Some people like to drop the temperature to around 100 degrees or less. Stay in control – It’s tempting for kids to treat the hot tub like a swimming pool – splashing, diving from side to side, and plunging underwater. Set some ground rules for “playing” in the tub, and what’s considered to rowdy, before hopping in. Keep them entertained – It’s a good idea to keep some fun toys around to help pass the time, and keep the kids engaged. Some pool toys work well for younger children, while waterproof playing cards or a floating checkerboard work well for older kids.
